Sabino Canyon: Desert Explorer

Peter and Jen went exploring at Sabino Canyon, a national park near our house. They have miles and miles of trails, but we went the fun route and bought a ticket on the tram ride up 4 miles through the canyon. Peter thought it was a train and kept yelling "choo choo!"

We were able to get off every so often and walk up and down the paved trail. With all the snow in the mountains over the past month the creeks are overflowing and running over the bridges so we weren't able to get very far.

I suppose we could have walked on the bridge still, the water would be almost up to our ankles. Peter checked out his socks and shoes and was thinking of going in!

Mom stopped him though. I really didn't want to walk through a freezing cold stream and then have soaked shoes and socks for the rest of the day. Yuck! I talked him into just reaching down and touching the water.

Peter's favorite desert find was this big rock! Who cares about the big mountains, or the tall cactus. There are rocks!

Look mom, a rock!

What do you mean I have to leave it here? I can't take it home??? "MINE, MINE"

There's a nice little walking path we walked on.

Peter stopped to sit next to a big cactus.

He even found some stairs in the desert. They led up to some hidden picnic tables and a bathroom.

It takes lots of work to explore the desert. Peter and Chewy had to sit down and rest for a little bit.
