Mom's Driving

So, Peter...what do you think of mom's driving??

Egg Hunt

Then came time for the Egg Hunt. Peter was in the Ages 1-4 category. The field was crowded with tons of little kids running for eggs.

Peter was so excited running around he almost forgot to get eggs!

Finally he figured out how to pick one up and open it to reveal the candy inside. What, you say his hair looks red in these pictures? Yup, they had fun colored hairspray there so we turned Peter into a red head! A bunch of the kids hair was different colors, it looked like a sea full of bobbing Easter eggs running around.

"Wait a minute mommy...why did you take away that chocolate egg?!? I found that inside my easter egg!" Man, Easter sucks for allergy kids. I might have to bring Peter friendly eggs in my diaper bag for the next one. Almost everything in the eggs he couldn't eat. :(

Peter found some peppermints in one egg. A choking hazard for him, but I let him suck on them. Had to let the kid get SOME kind of treat from his eggs. Thankfully, he gave up on them quick.

Peter got a pretty good stash for such a little kid. We went off in the grass to explore what was inside.

Tasting some Smarties, a candy he can eat! And there's that bright red hair! That was fun to wash out in the tub! The bubbles turned all pink.

Oh, no! An opportunist baby looking for eggs! Get away baby, these are mine!

Easter Outing

Some of our friends invited us to their church's Easter Egg-stravaganza this weekend. It was in a different part of town called Dove Mountain at a beautiful grassy park (always a luxury in Tucson.) They had a couple bouncy houses and homemade carnival games. One of Peter's favorite parts was the big grassy hill. We took our shoes off and ran around barefoot all afternoon.

Peter's friends started to roll down the hill, something Peter has never done! So Peter tried to do it himself. He didn't quite get it though because he rolled sideways on the hill instead of down it. But it was a blast anyways!

He thought it was MUCH more fun to RUN down the hill with his "buddies". "Buddy, run!" he would say. His friend Alicia acts like Peter's older brother. She would hold his hand and lead him around the festival. They loved running up and down the big hill together.

Oh no! Mommy clicked the camera just as Peter fell down the hill! His feet can't always keep up with his body when he runs so fast. I have a feeling it will be a long summer of bumps and scrapes. I now carry band-aids everywhere I go.

Poor Peter needed some cuddles from mom.

A quick snack of apple-carrot juice and he was ready to go again.

This time he decided to play it safe and ran towards the bouncy houses, his buddy trailing behind him.

New Adventures at Home (video)

This week we had some new adventures at home. Peter got to try some Macaroni & Cheese! Ok, so it wasn't cheese...it was a strange vegan concoction of nutritional yeast mixed with different seasonings, but it was as close as Peter will get for a while. It actually did kinda look and taste like Mac & Cheese though!

Peter loved his cheesy noodles and quickly munched them down. They are kinda expensive so we won't get them a lot, but it was sure a nice treat for my little boy! I also figured out how to make him rice krispie squares this week! That was an instant favorite! And lastly, since it is almost Easter we HAD to buy our first sample of Peeps at the store. It is one Easter candy that he CAN have. Another sweet to be addicted to. This morning he actually ran to the fridge and was pointing at the top going "Chick, chick". Yeah, not for breakfast little buddy!

We also have been debating on when to switch Peter into a "big boy" bed. Some of his friends are already in theirs and when we go play at their house he is so excited to run and jump in their beds. This week he got in one, stuck his feet under the covers and almost fell asleep. I got home that night intent to change his crib into the day bed style so he could have a big boy bed all his own.

Peter LOVED it. He loved having that crib side down and spent a good hour jumping on and off his bed. It was his favorite thing ever. Then nighttime came. We snuggled up to read our stories then I tucked him into bed and turned the lights off. He started yelling. I just kinda waited to see where it would go. He didn't get out of bed he just sat there crying and yelling for mommy and daddy.

Finally I went in and tried laying down on the floor beside him. He just looked down at me with tears streaming down his face and hit the empty "wall" of his crib and yelled "BACK, back, BAAAAAAACK!"

Needless to say, I went to get daddy and we put the crib back together. Five minutes later Peter was happily sound asleep.

Before that though I got a little video of Peter playing with his "big boy" bed. We'll try again someday!

Aerospace & Arizona Days

Tucson air space has been invaded! Planes, jets, even thunderbirds invaded our air space last week practicing for the weekend's big airshow at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. John was working and unable to go but I was really lucky that I found some other mommy friends to go with us. All the kids are almost 2 and play together really well so it was a great group outing. One of the moms even had a military ID so we got in the back gate instead of battling the crowds and security sweeps! Woohoo!

Peter was fascinated by the first plane he saw. Wow, he looks tiny next to it.

Peter HAD to sit by his girlfriend Abigail on the shuttle to the airfield.

We were able to look at a bunch of planes up close. Peter loved touching them and peeking inside.

The owner of this plane even let Peter get in the drivers seat! He loved it! Peter wanted to touch all the knobs and instruments. The pilot even showed Peter how to pull the wand back to make the wings move. Wow! Peter excitedly threw that wand back and forth after that watching the wings flap.

Of course, Peter's eye found the one and only shark plane...

We even got to climb onto the wings of some planes and talk to some air force pilots.

The planes started flying shortly after we arrived. They blew smoke lines all over the sky, even in circles. Some even flew upside down. The kids ran to the gate to watch them on the runway.

Peter and Abigail are so sweet together. We asked them to give each other hugs, but they each went in for a kiss!

Peter liked to climb on the guardrail. I was waiting for him to try to sneak through the rails or under them and run out onto the runway. I plotted my method of how exactly I would get my adult body over the rails to run after him. Thankfully, it never happened!

I took a few more pictures, but a lot of them are more of the same. The rest of the airshow was spent like THIS...

Sabino Canyon With Daddy

Another beautiful day and daddy wasn't working! Peter and I decided to do something special and take daddy to see the rivers running in Sabino Canyon. Besides, it was another excuse for Peter to ride their train (aka tram) into the canyon. Peter had a hard time waiting at the bottom for the tram. He saw it in the distance and wanted to run to it instead of waiting for it to come pick us up.

Daddy took us for a hike through the desert. Yes, there are trees and bushes and even grass every once in a while. Daddy had to be extra careful because his feet would go right though the stray bushes growing into the path and every once in a while if he wasn't careful a branch would swing back at Peter. Peter learned to keep his distance quick.

We broke through the desert trees and found a sandy beach!

Peter was so excited he started running really fast! He is so funny when he runs. He swings his arms back and forth with all his might!

There was a little river at the beach. It was running over a bunch of rocks and sounded beautiful. Daddy and Peter started looking for rocks to skip across the river.

John was amazing at skipping rocks. He got them to skip 3-4 times and land on the beach on the other side of the river.

Peter didn't skip rocks as much as throw them into the water to make a big "PLOP" sound.

We stayed there skipping rocks, digging in the sand, and just enjoying nature for nearly an hour. What a fun memory with daddy!

Zoo + Train = FUN!!

Another trip to the zoo! The weather has been so beautiful lately that we are spending several hours outside every day. I LOVE this time of year! It's sunny and just the right temperature. A month or two we will be searching for indoor activities but right now we are enjoying being outside!

Peter is learning more animals every day. He can only name a few but he can point a bunch out in books. One of his favorites is the turtle. He got a stuffed turtle from Grandma and Grandpa Palmer when we were in Guam and its home is in the car. Peter holds it on car trips, gives it kisses and uses it as a pillow. He likes looking for turtles every time we go to the zoo.

Peter also likes watching the elephants. Sometimes we're lucky and they come right up to the fence, but not today.

The park around the zoo has a cute little train ride you can go on for $2. Since Peter is so obsessed with trains I usually try to go for a ride before we head home.

It takes us on a trip around the lake. We wave "Hi" at the people having picnics and at the ducks in the water.

This trip they even stopped the train because there was a turtle in the water! How exciting! We saw a turtle in the "wild"!

Strolling the Street

The 4th Avenue street fair was going on last weekend so we picked up John from work and zoomed down there for a Friday night out on the town. It is beautiful mid 70 degree weather down here and the flowers are blooming everywhere. (Allergies are terrible, but that's another story.)

The fair has all kinds of local artist booths and yummy fair food so we were thinking we'd grab out dinner down there. Of course, I figured Peter wouldn't be able to eat anything so as always I packed him a lunch cooler filled with his dinner and snacks. But wouldn't you know it we found things for him to eat and stuffed him silly!

One of his favorite things was something called a Potato Tornado. Right in front of us they cut a potato in a big long spiral then stuck it on a stick and grilled it in 100% canola oil. Awesome! Peter got to eat fried food on a stick at the fair! I never thought that would happen! YAY! He also got to eat a Reindeer Hot Dog and we all got our own Corn on the Cob. Mommy and Daddy even snuck in some funnel cake while Peter was busy with his Tornado. Yum yum! What a great dinner!

We had fun strolling the nearly 2 miles of street as the sun set. There were lots of fun street musicians to dance to and a lot of people watching. Peter LOVED the hat booth and tried on about 10 different hats. His favorite, and the one he looked cutest in, was a coon skin hat. It looked perfect on him and I ALMOST bought it, maybe next time.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We've been having a wonderfully green day ever since we woke up this morning. John had the day off so he was able to join us for a fun playdate with our mommy group. We all got to dress in green for the party!

About 30 other families met us at the park, we flooded the park with green. It was a beautiful day! In the 70's for the playdate, but by the afternoon it was already in the high 80's. I have a feeling summer will be coming soon. I am digging out the shorts and sandals!

I don't know if you can see us but we are smack dab in the middle of this picture. Peter of course was looking the wrong way, checking out the kid behind him.

John was the life of the playground and made lots of friends. He helped all the kids learn to climb the big ladder up to the slide. All the other moms marveled at how good he was with all the kids.

John even taught Peter a little lesson on how to slide down on his bottom, normally Peter likes to go on his belly.

But there was success!! Both boys went down on their bottoms! Yay!

Peter had a great time running around the playground chasing other kids and exploring the park. He now knows the work "park" and "play". Anytime we drive past a playground he will yell "PLAY PLAY!!!" from the backseat. He tries to pull on his car seat straps to get out and climb out of the car. If I drive past the playground I just get a soft sad whine "play..." *sniff*

Since it was so warm Peter needed to stay hydrated with some water...dyed green of course!

And there was a smorgasbord of green food to eat! Cookies, cupcakes, banana bread, jello... I made a breakfast casserole that was quickly wolfed down. It was made with green eggs and ham!

Peter got to snack on green apples, green grapes, and celery.

The rest of the day wasn't quite as much fun. John had to get a root canal, yuck! But thankfully it went pretty well and they did a good job. After that it was home for naps and some relaxation.

I hope everyone else had a great green day! Now I'm off to make steak, green mashed potatoes, and green peas (and carrots) for dinner. Yum yum!
