Field Trip to the Fire Station

One of Peter's friends, Cam, has a daddy who is a fireman. Friday he invited a few of us down to visit his fire station and look at all the different trucks. What a fun field trip!

Peter lately has been all about trucks. As we are driving down the road he will often yell "druck!! Druck!" from the back seat. And when I look back he is pointing out the window at a truck and waving at it so fast he looks like he might take flight. He's even been lucky enough to get a few truck drivers to wave back at him.

When we got to the fire station and he saw big shiny trucks up close he was super excited. He got to go up and touch these giant red trucks. The wheels alone were taller than him.

The firemen turned the flashers on and got out some of their gear for the kids to try on. Peter got to try on the fireman's hat. (OMG, that hat was super dirty. His hands were black afterwards!)

Peter tried to climb into the boots and pants, but ended up falling down into them instead.

Those firemen must be crazy because they let Peter get in the driver's seat of a fire truck. I was so scared he was gonna push one of the funky looking buttons and set off the siren. I watched him like a hawk when he was "driving".

With all the cool new things to be found in the fire station guess what my son was most excited about? A ball. He went into the exercise room and found a big exercise ball and had a great time bouncing it. Then he found a heavy weighted medicine ball and tried to lift that. It took a few minutes of trying before he realized it wasn't going to budge, those things are heavy!

A few other boys found an empty janitor bucket and started wheeling that around the garage. That seemed to be the hit of the day!

By this point Peter was starting to get overwhelmed but there was still more to look at.

The firemen took us outside and showed us how to work the fire hose! Thankfully no one got wet, it was a little too cold for that.

Cam's daddy came over and gave Peter a sticker that said "Tucson Fire Department". Peter loves stickers lately and took it happily.

He ended up putting the sticker on his belly.

Peter then decided it was time to go back to playing with rocks. Silly kid! We take him to the fire station and he ends up playing with rocks!!!

We had such a great time at the fire station. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to go visit one. Peter seemed to have a great time and got to see a whole bunch of new things. I'm so thankful we know so many great people here in Tucson! Yay for firemen!!!
