Choo-Choo!

Monday night the Meetup Moms had a group outing at Trail Dust Town, an old western style tourist center. They got a great deal, for $5 we got unlimited rides on the train and the carousel and got to have a picnic there. We had such a great time and so many great pictures that I have to divide it up into a few posting! This one is all pictures from Peter's first train ride.

It didn't start until later in the day so John and a lot of the other daddies were able to come to. It was a fun family night out.

The train ride went around the perimeter of the old west town. It went through a ghost town, a few tunnels, past some waterfalls. It was a cute little ride. We went on it twice and will have to go on it again next time we are there!

Peter didn't know what to think about the train whistle. One time we sat right up front and he got to watch it go off. It was loud!

We picked up a good enough speed to get our hair whipping in the breeze!

It was so much fun to go on a train together! And so many things to look at! We liked to wave at our friends as we passed by them.

Dad Feeds Giraffes, too!

For daddy's birthday weekend we decided to head down to the zoo as a family outing. It was great weather. Sunny with a high of 90 degrees. Much cooler than every other day this time of year. You couldn't ask for a better day.

It was nice to have a relaxing stroll around the zoo. It's one of our favorite outings. Since we have a membership we can go anytime! We dressed Peter in his giraffe tank top for when we would go see the giraffe's.

Peter got to see the Rhino's, but they were lazy and taking a nap.

John got to try his hand at feeding the giraffe's with Peter. They fed him a biscuit...

And then a big leaf of lettuce. (The giraffe's nose is in the left side of the shot...coming in for the food.)

Yum yum yum!

Peter got a little scared of the giraffe.

After the giraffe we went to the splashpark at the zoo. Peter found the buttons this time. They have buttons set up around the exterior that set off different sprinklers. Its hell for mommies and daddies trying not to get wet. We will think we are safe and then a kid finds the buttons and WHAM we are soaked. Peter doesn't have the strength to actually push the buttons yet, thankfully.

Peter tried his hand at the water pump too. He loves to sit in this pool of water and splash.

John's 30 Today! (video)

Today is John's 30th birthday! Happy Birthday John! We are planning on having some friends and their families over for a BBQ Saturday night. I've been kinda sick all week so all our cleaning and preparations will be crammed into Saturday morning. Eek!

I got some photos from family of John's past 30 years and made a little slide show. It has been fun to look back at his baby pictures. I think Peter has his cheeks and his belly!

Thank you to John's mom Deanna, Grandpa Martin, Aunt Marilyn, and my mom Cindy for sending some photos to contribute to this. Enjoy!

Splashing & Mudpies

Today we went to our friend Stephanie and Jack's house for a playdate. We went outside to play in their baby pool and mud table. FUN!

Peter didn't wait for baby Jack to fill the pool, he climbed in the moment he saw water. Since Jack was trying to fill the pool all by himself Peter ended up with the hose in his face a few times. He never complained about it though!

Stephanie made muffins that Peter absolutely loved. He stuffed as much as he could in his chubby cheeks. YUMM!!

We also had snacks of animal cookies and goldfish.

Peter didn't find the mud table until the very end. He didn't quite dive in...just kinda tested it out with his hands.

Peter got soaking wet but we rinsed him off and got him changed into dry clothes before heading home. He was so happy and tired. He ended up going to bed early tonight. Good day!

What animal has a black tongue?

A giraffe of course! We got to see for ourselves today. We were at the zoo in time for the giraffe's feeding time today! We got to feed a giraffe! Peter was a little curious but as the giraffe came at us with his tongue out Peter started clinging to me and leaned away. Giraffes are cool but they can be a little intimidating. After all, his head is about the same size as Peter's whole body!

We invited some of the Meetup Moms to join as at the zoo early this morning. We started at 9am so we could get through the zoo before it got too hot out. Luckily that meant that the animals were still pretty perky.

I got Peter dressed in his safari outfit but he insisted on wearing his red shoes and red hat. So much for color coordinating!

Peter seemed to be a ladies man today. He hung out a lot with Genevieve, the girl in the flower dress. She's a month older than him.

This trip to the zoo was much more calm than the last time. Last time there were school field trips and now it was much quieter. The little ones actually got to play in the splash zone without being disturbed by older kids. I think they stayed in there almost 30 minutes before we finally dragged them out.

Peter is fascinated by the old fashioned water pump. He was trying to figure out how to pump the handle up and down to get more water. I kept worrying that he was going to pinch his fingers!

Peter got soaked. Luckily I knew enough to bring a change of clothes.

He had so much fun. The zoo is a fun place to go in the mornings when its still cool out.

Basketball Baby (video)

This past weekend we have started a new family outing. Nearly every day we have headed to our apartment's basketball court as the sun goes down to let Peter run off some energy and play a little bit.

He has so much fun that the basketball court has become his new favorite place. We have been working on getting Peter to walk out to the car on his own two feet. He does pretty good except that we have to walk past the basketball court. He gets distracted and tries to go in there instead.

He has so much fun playing with the basketball. He doesn't play with it as much as he just holds it and takes it places. Mom and dad take the ball and make him chase it. Once he grabs hold he will bounce it a few times but he basically has a death grip on it.

This week also saw the start of some temper tantrums. When we would pick him up to go the rest of the way to the car he would scream and kick! He wants to play!!

We also had a fun tantrum yesterday when he was playing with daddy and I decided to take a shower. He got up to follow me and when I closed the door to the bathroom he spent my entire shower laying on the floor of the hallway screaming and crying and sticking his fingers under the door. Poor baby!

I am looking forward to this next week. We have a lot of new activities that are starting, hopefully that means some fun new pictures. Keep a look out!

I am having fun making little videos of Peter and learning the new software we have. It's fun to look back on. Here's one I made of our little basketball star!
