The Streaker

Friday we went to the splash park again and had a lot of fun. It's been in the hundreds nearly every day this week so its nice to get a chance to cool off. John was off work and able to join us so he came and helped show Peter how to get wet. He is still a little scared of all the water spraying everywhere but he wanders around the perimeter and stomps his feet. Good enough for now.

After playing we went to take Peter's clothes off and let him go FREE in the field. He has had a bad yeast infection diaper rash this week...his poor bottom was actually bleeding from it. I called the doctor and he said to get an antifungal cream and to let him be diaper-free for half the day, preferably in the sun. He's also getting vinegar baths every day.

It has been a bit crazy trying to let him be without a diaper for half the day. We've had to clean up a few accidents in the house. The worst one was when he peed on the floor in the kitchen. He ended up stepping in it and slipping, he started crying but kept trying to stand up and fell over and over again. Poor boy! He got a bath real quick after that one!

After splashing at the park we let him run around for a few minutes to let his bottom dry fully. It was so funny to see this little naked baby toddle around the soccer field. A few of the other kids were pointing at him and giggling but he didn't care.

On the plus side his bottom seems to be getting better. And he's still full of energy. He's a crazy baby!

Splish-Splash!

Yesterday we ventured out to the splashpad with our friends to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We had a mexican potluck as the kids played in the water. Peter didn't quite know what to think of all the water spraying everywhere. At first he tried not to get wet.

There were probably about 20 kids running around in the water and splashing each other, it was a little overwhelming I think. After the first few sprinkles actually hit him he came toddling back to me crying.

But on the edge of the excitement he was able to calm down and I taught him to start stomping his feet in the water.

We decided to take a little break and let the big kids go crazy for a while. We went and sat down to a lunch of taco salad and fresh fruit. After he had a full tummy and the big kids were busy hitting a pinata we tried again. This time we had better results, he walked all around the play area and even walked under the rainbow sprinkler you see in the background.

Peter let loose and started smiling and exploring all the different water toys.

He liked to watch the fountains squirt up and he would inch toward them and STRETCH out to touch the water.

Unfortunately after about 10 minutes another little girl came in and she decided to grab the water cannon and spray Peter smack in the face. Mean little girl!!! He looked like a little drowned rat and came over to grab my leg and hide behind me. Poor Peter!

We left the splashpad as older kids started coming back. I changed Peter out of his wet clothes and put him in a dry diaper and shoes, reapplied some sunscreen and let him run a little. He found another little boy playing with trucks in the shade under a tree.

They played together for the rest of our time there and had fun. The other boy tried to teach Peter how to load the dump truck with dirt and how to push the plow. It was cute.

Going to the Zoo

Today we went to the zoo with our mom's group. It was fun to watch Peter as he really saw and watched the animals. Each time we go he notices more things and is more interactive. Today he rode the elephant statue as we looked at the elephants. They were BIG!

"Look mom, Look! Over there! What's that!?"

Those are giraffes. They are TALL.

WOW!!!

Peter thought the giraffes were really fun!

Halfway through the park we stopped and played with the other kids a little bit.

Peter liked to pretend he was a turtle.

Then we sat down and had a snack of Cheerio's and apple juice.

The group moved on but Peter still wanted more snack so we took it on the go.

At the end it was reaching 90 degrees so we decided to play in the zoo splashpark. At first Peter was a little scared of all the water spraying and sprinkling everywhere. Then we found this little water pump with a small puddle. Peter liked to stomp in the water.

Peter got VERY wet but we had planned on that and changed his clothes before heading home. It was a fun morning!

Tucson Folk Festival

Today mom and dad took me to the Tucson Folk Festival. It was spread out downtown over a couple of blocks with several stages and different food vendors scattered around. There were lots of musicians playing guitars, bangos, double basses, ukeleles, and even mandolins! We started out at the Museum of Art stage.

I liked to dance to the music in my stroller but I really wanted to climb out and just play on the stairs! I had new Nike shoes from Oma Cindy that I had to break in.

I made a new friend and he and I spent a LONG time climbing the stairs together. I even tried to help him with his technique and pushed his butt up a few times so he'd figure it out.

I tried to walk down the stairs instead of crawl but I ended up falling and bruising myself a little. Dad and Mom made sure to always help me go down the stairs after that. I CAN go down them myself as long as I have a railing or something to hold onto!

After the museum we went over to the courthouse square to listen to a 12 year old jazz sax player. We ate some rice, veggies and chicken for dinner. It was YUMMY! We sat at the back because there was more grass and room to run around. Mommy brought bubbles to play with for a little while. I had fun watching the birds, too. Then I found a ROCK!!!

Rocks are cool! The one I found was big and hard and when I threw it on the grass it kinda bounced...but then when I threw it on the hard ground it made a loud clunky noise. I had fun throwing it on the sidewalks and brick.

I even tried to eat it, but mommy said it was "yucky". Besides, it wouldn't have fit in my mouth anyway.

Mom and Dad seemed to have a lot of fun. They saw some people they knew and enjoyed the music and being outside. They said it reminded them of when we went last year. I was only a few weeks old then so I don't really remember it.

Here's Dad and I in 2009. I'm growing out of daddy's arms!

And here's us in 2008 in almost the same spot. We matched! Boy I look little!

Here's Mom and I in 2009. I was starting to get a little tired at the end of the day.

And here's us in 2008! Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun!

After all that playing I was glad to finally go home to take a bath and go to bed. I'm a little sad that I had to leave my rock behind...I think he would have liked to come home with me.

MMOT Retreat Lunch & Funny Story

The Meetup Moms of Tucson had their annual Mother's Day Retreat luncheon yesterday. A whole afternoon of time with other mommies and NO KIDS!!! I left Peter home with John for the entire afternoon while I took some time out. It was a lot of fun to trade stories and just have some time free without worrying about what Peter was getting into.

It was at El Parador. How can 3 hours go by so fast?!? About 35 moms attend, and all seemed to be enjoying time with the girls. We read hilarious "dirty little secrets" (contributed anonymously, of course), drew raffle prizes, and ate yummy Mexican food and strawberry Costco cake!

It was funny, alot of us moms kept checking our cell phones waiting from news from home or wondering how our families were doing. I did get a text message from John saying Peter had had TWO poopy diapers. Wow! Daddy got a good dose of diaper duty!

I had decided to take John's car so that he could have the air-conditioned car at home in case they decided to go out somewhere. On the way home I decided to surprise John and fill his gas tank. Oh what drama!

First, I pulled into the gas station and got out only to find out that the nozzle was on the wrong side. SO I got out and repositioned the car. Then I got out and tried to open the gas cap. His tank cover has a locking mechanism and I couldn't figure out how to open it. After about 3 minutes of seaching and pulling I finally found the button in the glove compartment. I pushed and pushed it but nothing happend. So I pushed harder. Still nothing. I sighed, got in the driver's seat and started the car to leave and give up....and it popped! I guess it needed power.

So I got out of the car and put gas in the tank, really happy with myself that I had figured it out. I got my receipt and hopped back in the car. As I was pulling out there were LOUD popping sounds coming from the back of the car!! They sounded like a big pop gun but I could feel the clunk in the car frame so I knew something was wrong with the car.

I turned the car off and it stopped...what the heck!??! I turned the car on...it started again...then I looked back at the gas tank...the gas door was popped open! Turns out while I was pushing and pushing the button I got it stuck. I hit the dash and the glove compartment trying to get it to pop back out and it never did!!! I ended up driving home listening to the "Pop, Pop, Pop" of the gas door.

I got home and came in the house and embarrasedly told John "I was trying to be nice...I'M SORRY!!! I broke your car!!! But I was trying to be nice!!" He got a little frustrated but ended up heading out to the car, took the dash off and pulled the button out. It's fixed!!! Yay!!! And he now has a full gas tank!

I am no longer allowed to do ANYTHING to his car without calling him first. DOH!

"I Tried To Be Good, But I Got Bored"

I found Peter a new shirt this week. It says "I tried to be good, but I got bored." I just let out a big laugh when I read it because it reminds me of Peter so much! He really does TRY to sit patiently for a tiny bit...but quickly he decides its not for him and he gets up and runs off.

He is truly a mover and shaker these days. He's like a little bumble bee zooming from place to place and never lingering too long. He hates sitting in my lap for story time, sitting in the cart at the grocery store, or even sitting too long in his high chair. Usually I can keep him still for a few minutes if I have some snacks but he just has an overwhelming urge to toddle everywhere! I actually think its pretty fun and cute most of the time...I just worry that the people around us may find it annoying so I try to reign him in.

He's also started "running" in place when he's really excited and lifting his knees really high. It's amazing to me that he can now express excitement!

The past 2 Fridays we've been lucky enough to go to My Gym with our mommy group. And John has been off both days to go explore and tumble with us. We've had a lot of fun. I have had fun taking pictures of all the kids playing. The last time I was a little bummed because my lens had a smudge on it and I didn't find out until I got home! Most of my pictures were ruined by this little smudge! :(

This is the gym we went to every week when Peter was 2-6 months old. It was fun to go back now that he's older and can explore even more of their obstacles. Here he is walking the balance beam with daddy.

He rolled balls around with his friend Jack. Jack just turned one also and he goes with us to library storytime. Peter likes to pet Jack's hair and Jack will give him a hug back. They are cute together.

Peter practiced going up and down these stairs. He is trying to do stairs now like a big boy standing up instead of crawling up them. He gets it sometimes as long as he has something to hold onto.

He also learned the joys of the trampoline for the first time. He bounced with mom and dad holding him, then I set him down on his own and we did little bounces together. He thought it was so much fun he kept climbing back on the trampoline on his own. He'd get on his knees and start bouncing.
