Just a quick note while Peter is kinda drowsy and giving me a chance to lay him down for a bit.
Peter is now 6 weeks old! Time sure flies. I've now had about 2 weeks on my own. The house seems pretty quiet now that both Grandma's have come and gone. Peter keeps me busy with feedings, burping and diaper changes. Thankfully all of these have slowed down a little from those first weeks. If I get a chance I take a nap too in the afternoon which helps to make up for a feeding or two in the night.
I keep looking for reasons to get out of the house though. Even if its just a quick run to the grocery store for carrots (yesterday) or a walk to the 7/11 corner store for the paper. Today I went for the first time to a breastfeeding/new mom support group they have at Babies R Us. It was kinda neat because 3 other moms showed up with babies all around Peter's age. It was fun to laugh about some of the same silly things with newborns. Oh! One thing that was really great was that they weighed him! He's now 10 lbs, 10 oz. Getting bigger all the time!
Last week we ventured out to the drive-in for the first time. I figured that maybe it would work since we could have some semi-privacy in the car to take care of baby while still watching the movie. It worked out great! We were able to see Iron Man and I could still change diapers and feed Peter without missing huge chunks of the movie. Hopefully the nights stay cool for a while so we can take advantage of it more.
Life with a new baby isn't too bad. I'm thankful that family was here to help with the initiation into Parenthood. I think I would have gone into shock if I got thrown into all the changes alone. Now though everything is going pretty smoothly. We are getting a routine and settling in pretty well.
Peter's does have a new trick. I kept loosing pacifiers and ended up having 3 of them hiding around the house. One morning I got him out of bed and was looking and looking for the one I had left with him and couldn't find it. Finally I got down on my hands and knees...and there were all the pacifiers hiding behind the bed next to the wall! Sometime in his sleep he is getting the pacifier with his hand and flinging them out of the bed. Crazy boy!
Oh, there are also some smiles sneaking out of him a couple times a day. Daddy John gets most of them though. He's always so happy to play with him.
Well, I'm off. There's some wiggling and whining starting to come from the back room.
